Jannik Sinner undergoes knee tests in Torino ahead of US Open
World number one Jannik Sinner is undergoing medical evaluations in Torino to determine his fitness for the upcoming US Open. After a right knee injury forced him to withdraw from the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments in Montreal and Cincinnati, Sinner has begun training at the Circolo della Stampa Sporting to test his joint's response to movement and direction changes.
Decisive clinical checks are scheduled at J Medical between August 17 and 18. Sinner has indicated he will only travel to New York for the US Open, starting August 30, if he is at 100 percent capacity and playing without pain.
In other tennis news, Arthur Fils has advanced to the third round of the Cincinnati Masters 1000 after defeating Yannick Hanfmann. Fils, who currently holds the top spot in the Under Pressure rankings due to his high success rate in tie-breaks and deciding sets, will next face Jiri Lehecka. Additionally, Arthur Fils has been named to the French Davis Cup squad for the upcoming qualifying matches against Canada in September.
