Arthur Fils withdraws from Davis Cup due to physical concerns

French tennis player Arthur Fils has withdrawn from the upcoming Davis Cup competition in Quebec, Canada. The decision follows a first-round exit at the US Open, where the world No. 11 lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in four sets.

Fils cited physical difficulties and the need for caution following a complicated year marked by injuries, including a hip injury that affected his Roland Garros campaign and a previous stress fracture in his back. He stated on social media that he and his team decided to “take full stock” of his physical condition before resuming training and preparing for the remainder of the season.

Captain Paul-Henri Mathieu will need to find a replacement for the French squad, which includes Arthur Rinderknech, Quentin Halys, and Pierre-Hugues Herbert. Arthur Gea has expressed interest in filling the vacancy after reaching the round of 16 in New York.
