Arthur Gea reaches US Open round of 16
French tennis player Arthur Gea has reached the round of 16 at the US Open, marking a career milestone in a Grand Slam tournament. Gea, currently ranked 87th in the world, secured his place after a hard-fought five-set victory against American Michael Zheng, with a final score of 7-6 (9/7), 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Gea’s unexpected run began after he entered the main draw as a replacement for the injured Casper Ruud. After defeating Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the first round and Zachary Svajda in the second, he overcame Zheng in a match characterized by high intensity and frequent breaks.
As the last remaining French player in the tournament, Gea is set to face the Netherlands' Botic van de Zandschulp in the next round. Gea noted the opportunity presented by the absence of several seeded players in his section of the bracket, stating, “I will try to make the most of it.”
