Arthur Gea seeks US Open wildcard after Los Cabos title

French 21‑year‑old Arthur Gea captured his first ATP title at the Los Cabos Open, defeating Denis Shapovalov 6‑3, 6‑4. The victory is expected to lift his ranking from No. 127 to around No. 82, placing him among the top ten French players in the top 100.

Following the win, Gea appealed to the French Tennis Federation for a wildcard into the US Open, stating, “I hope to receive a wild‑card from the FFT for the US Open.” Wildcards at Flushing Meadows are typically awarded to American players, and Gea will compete with established internationals such as Gaël Monfils for the limited slots.

Gea’s recent form includes a Challenger final in Granby and a title at the Mifel Open in Los Cabos, as well as Grand Slam appearances at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon, where he reached qualifying rounds but fell short in the main draws.
