Arthur Joseph Kurup demands apology over religious remarks

Arthur Joseph Kurup, the Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman, has called for an unconditional public apology from Sepang UMNO Division Chief Datuk Noorazli Said following controversial remarks made during the 2026 UMNO General Assembly.

Noorazli’s speech reportedly included references to Christianity, priests, nuns, and the Bible. Arthur criticized the comments as inappropriate and excessive, stating they lacked political maturity and failed to respect the religious sensitivities of the Malaysian public.

Arthur emphasized that political differences do not justify mocking the faiths of others for humor or applause. He reminded political leaders that issues involving race, religion, and the monarchy (3R) are sensitive matters that must be handled with responsibility to maintain public order and national harmony. He further noted that BN stands for unity and stability among Malaysia’s multi-ethnic and multi-religious society.
