Arthur Laffer visits Chile, discusses tax policy at Universidad del Desarrollo

U.S. economist Arthur B. Laffer, known for the Laffer curve, returned to Chile after four decades for a conference at the Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD). The event began with a power outage that prompted Laffer to joke with the audience. He met with Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz, the Confederación para la Producción y el Comercio (CPC), and former ministers, including Rolf Lüders.

During the discussion, Laffer addressed challenges to global trade, investment and economic growth, noting Chile’s attractive attributes for investors. He urged strengthening conditions that support stability and competitiveness. Attendees included ex‑ministers Ignacio Briones, Carlos Cáceres, Cristián Larroulet, Joaquín Lavín and other business and academic leaders.
