Arthur Lira and Renan Calheiros lead Alagoas Senate race
A recent Quaest poll indicates a close race for the Senate in Alagoas, with Arthur Lira (PP) leading at 20% and Renan Calheiros (MDB) following closely at 18%. Due to a three-percentage-point margin of error, the two candidates are considered to be in a technical tie.
Marina JHC (PSDB) holds the third position with 15% of the intended votes, followed by Davi Davino Filho (Republicanos) at 10%. Other candidates include Dr. Wanderley (MDB) at 5% and Mariedson (Democrata) at 1%. The poll also noted that 19% of voters remain undecided, while 12% intend to vote blank, null, or not show up.
The political landscape in Alagoas has been marked by significant uncertainty during the pre-campaign period. Key developments included shifts in candidate alignments, such as Alfredo Gaspar (PL) moving to a vice-presidential slot, and the fluctuating political direction of João Henrique Caldas (JHC), the former mayor of Maceió, who has navigated negotiations between different political factions.
