Arthur Lundeen arrested after violent outburst on American Airlines flight
Arthur Layne Lundeen, a 67-year-old real estate agent from Arizona, was arrested after a violent outburst on American Airlines Flight 618, traveling from Dallas to Newark on September 3, 2026. The incident forced the aircraft to divert to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
Witnesses reported that Lundeen became increasingly belligerent, hurling racist and homophobic slurs at crew members and passengers. The situation escalated into physical violence, including allegations that he struck a passenger, damaged a laptop, and bit a retired police officer, Juan Mejia, who was assisting in restraining him. To maintain order, crew members and passengers, including New Jersey gun shop owner Richard O’Lenick, used zip ties and duct tape to secure Lundeen to his seat.
Lundeen’s seatmate, author Jonathan Cahn, stated the confrontation began after a discussion regarding religious topics and the cover of Cahn’s new book. Following the incident, Lundeen was terminated from his position as vice president at Long Realty in Tucson. He has been charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct in Maryland and is scheduled to appear in court on October 19. The FBI is also investigating to determine if federal charges are warranted.
