Arthur Okonkwo expected to leave Wrexham after losing starting role

Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is expected to leave the club this summer following a shift in the team's hierarchy. The 25-year-old Nigeria international has seen his status as a first-choice player diminish after Wrexham completed the €8m signing of Nathan Patterson from Sunderland.

Okonkwo, who joined Wrexham from Arsenal, previously played a significant role in the club's promotion to the Championship, recording 19 clean sheets in 33 appearances. However, manager Phil Parkinson has increasingly favored Danny Ward and Patterson, leading to Okonkwo being left out of the matchday squad for Wrexham's recent Championship opener.

Several Championship clubs, including Charlton Athletic, Derby County, and Bolton Wanderers, have expressed interest in the goalkeeper. While Charlton may have initiated discussions, a potential move—whether permanent or via loan—could be complicated by Okonkwo's current salary. The player is reportedly seeking a move to ensure consistent senior football to maintain his position within the Nigeria national team.
