Artificial biopic starring Andrew Garfield to premiere at New York Film Festival

The biographical drama ‘Artificial’, directed by Luca Guadagnino, is set to have its world premiere at the New York Film Festival. Starring Andrew Garfield as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the film explores the chaotic events of November 2023, during which Altman was briefly removed from his position before being reinstated following pressure from employees and investors.

Sam Altman has commented on the production, stating that while he does not believe the film aims for strict accuracy, he found Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of his quirky mannerisms and walk to be accurate. Altman described the experience of seeing the actor filming near his home as ‘really weird’ and noted that the film appears to prioritize cinematic storytelling over a factual depiction.

The film features a cast including Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati and Yura Borisov as Ilya Sutskever. Originally developed by Amazon MGM Studios, the project was later picked up by Neon for distribution. ‘Artificial’ is part of a growing trend in Hollywood of films focusing on controversial tech founders, reflecting shifting public sentiment toward the industry.
