Artificial intelligence advances in cardiology and cancer diagnostics
Medical experts and researchers are highlighting the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in cardiology and oncology. At the XXX International Congress of the Polish Society of Cardiology, specialists from Poland and the USA emphasized that for AI to improve patient care, it must meet four criteria: provide better clinical outcomes, integrate into daily medical workflows, remain cost-effective, and be validated using local population data under physician supervision.
In oncology, new AI models are showing promise in predicting cancer progression and recurrence. Researchers from the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of Michigan have developed a model capable of predicting where glioblastoma is likely to recur after surgery, potentially allowing for targeted treatment before tumors become visible on MRI scans.
Additionally, scientists at the Mayo Clinic have developed an AI model that can predict the risk of pancreatic cancer up to three years before diagnosis. By analyzing longitudinal electronic health records and routine laboratory results spanning up to 19 years, the model identifies subtle signals of disease risk, offering a potential solution for early detection in a cancer known for high mortality rates and late-stage diagnoses.
