Artificial intelligence aids Czech doctors in stroke diagnosis and radiology
Medical professionals in the Czech Republic are increasingly utilizing artificial intelligence to enhance diagnostic accuracy and speed in radiology and neurology.
At Uherskohradiště Hospital, new software is being used to analyze CT scans for patients suspected of having a stroke. The technology helps distinguish between salvageable brain tissue and irreversible damage by assessing ischemic changes and vessel patency. According to neurology department head Pavel Zicháček, the tool aims to save time—critical since patients can lose approximately 1.9 million neurons per minute during a stroke—and can assist in cases where the exact onset of symptoms is unclear.
In broader radiological practice, experts like Jan Baxa from Hořovice Hospital note that AI can identify subtle findings, such as small metastases or minor fractures, that might be overlooked by human eyes. While the technology serves as a valuable assistant to speed up workflows and increase reliability, medical professionals emphasize that the final clinical decisions remain the responsibility of the physician.
