Artificial Intelligence and Data Centers Spark Debate in Europe
A new film, *Mercy*, directed by Timur Bekmambetov and starring Rebecca Ferguson and Chris Pratt, portrays a future courtroom where algorithmic calculations replace human judgment. The movie highlights the tension between computational accuracy and moral fairness, raising questions about whether AI systems can truly understand human motives or merely identify statistical patterns.
At the same time, the rapid expansion of large data centers to support AI workloads is prompting protests across the region. Experts note that data centers aggregate computing resources to achieve economies of scale, but their construction brings noise, water shortages, higher electricity costs and land price hikes for nearby communities. In Serbia, residents near new facilities report a decline in quality of life, while in Croatia the debate is echoed in public discussions about the ethical use of AI in legal systems.
