The concept of the technological singularity—a point where artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence and triggers uncontrollable technological growth—is gaining renewed attention due to the rise of generative AI. This theory suggests an ‘intelligence explosion’ where machines enter a cycle of continuous self-improvement, leading to superintelligence.

Timelines for this event vary significantly among experts. Ray Kurzweil has predicted this could occur by 2045 based on Moore’s Law, while Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has suggested a more urgent timeline of 2027. However, OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman has expressed the view that we are already living through the singularity, stating, ‘We are now, as if we are in the singularity, as if it is this moment.’
