Artificial intelligence boosts competitiveness of Southern Italian SMEs

A workshop in Potenza highlighted six practical AI applications across sectors such as automotive, wine production, health, engineering, retail robotics and industrial process optimisation. Companies including Brecav, Cantine del Notaio and MYAV demonstrated how AI tools improve efficiency, productivity and decision‑making, while organisers stressed AI as a strategic lever for growth in Basilicata.

The following day, the University of Calabria hosted a Forum for SMEs focused on innovation, AI and the development of the Mezzogiorno. Participants from government, industry and academia discussed AI‑driven competitiveness, energy transition, digital internationalisation and new industrial policies, with contributions from Confapi leaders, the Deputy Prime Minister’s office and research agencies. The event aims to shape a white‑paper offering concrete proposals to reinforce the Southern economy within Italy and Europe.
