Generative AI reshapes digital design and human cognition

Generative artificial intelligence is fundamentally reshaping digital workflows, design, and human cognition. In the creative sector, latent diffusion models and multimodal transformers have democratized visual production, allowing users to convert text prompts into complex imagery or transform static photos into short-form video content.

Beyond creative utility, the proliferation of AI and external digital memory is raising concerns regarding cognitive performance. Research suggests a potential decline in cognitive indicators, noting that the Flynn effect—the historical rise in IQ scores—has stalled or reversed in several countries. Studies indicate that when individuals know information is easily retrievable online, they are less likely to encode it into their own memory, potentially hindering pattern recognition and complex reasoning.

Socially, the technology is increasingly visible in everyday life, from synthetic social media content to AI-designed physical branding and logos. The ability to create interactive digital replicas of deceased individuals through voice and image synthesis also introduces profound ethical questions regarding grief and human vulnerability.
