AI infrastructure expansion drives global demand for energy and semiconductors

The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence is placing unprecedented strain on global physical infrastructure, particularly in the energy and semiconductor sectors. Energy demand is a critical bottleneck. In the United States, the Federal Reserve has noted that AI-related data center activity is a major driver of economic demand and non-residential construction. Meanwhile, the massive capital requirements are evident in corporate spending, with Alphabet planning approximately 200 billion dollars in capital expenditures this year, primarily for data center development. Other physical constraints include the need for high-speed fiber optic connectivity and increasing demand for ultra-pure water for semiconductor manufacturing and cooling.
