Artificial intelligence impacts municipal management and professional communication

Artificial intelligence is increasingly being applied to administrative and professional tasks, with significant implications for both municipal governance and daily office work.

In Humppila, Finland, the use of AI to address budget deficits resulted in the elimination of two senior management positions and a savings of 150,000 euros. The technology was also utilized to streamline administrative routines, such as procurement processes.

On a broader professional scale, AI expert Bilal Zafar predicts that current forms of email communication may become obsolete within five years. Speaking at an event in Espoo, Zafar suggested that AI will increasingly handle the transmission of information, reducing the need for humans to act as mere intermediaries. While this shift could automate bureaucracy and routine tasks, Zafar emphasized that human oversight remains critical for risk assessment and verifying the reliability of AI-generated conclusions.
