Artificial Intelligence integration and ethics discussed in Greece

Discussions regarding the practical application and ethical implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) are taking place in Greece. The Association of Thessalian Enterprises and Industries (STHEV) is organizing an event titled ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Practice: The New Era in Business Operations’ in Larissa on September 24, 2026. The event aims to explore how AI can be integrated into modern business activities to support innovation, decision-making, and competitiveness through practical examples from Greek and international markets.

In a separate discussion held at the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) Western Crete branch, Professor George Arapatzis of the University of Crete highlighted AI as a tool that requires specific training and strict ethical and safety rules. He noted that while AI can automate repetitive tasks for engineers—such as data organization and report generation—it does not replace human responsibility. Arapatzis warned of the phenomenon of AI ‘hallucinations,’ where systems produce seemingly plausible but factually incorrect information, emphasizing that human oversight remains essential for critical infrastructure and professional accountability.
