Artificial intelligence integration in science and education

Researchers and educators are examining the integration of artificial intelligence within scientific and humanistic frameworks.

In Brazil, Professor Eudes Eterno Fileti of the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) presented research on using machine learning to solve complex physical-chemical problems. Fileti demonstrated how AI helped overcome barriers in studying zinc/urea electrolytes, a task previously considered unfeasible through traditional methods. However, he noted that while AI amplifies competence, it does not replace it, as human chemical intuition was required to identify confident errors made by the technology.

In Portugal, the V Manuel Ferreira Patrício Conference, organized by the Coração Delta association, addressed the relationship between science, education, and humanism. The event focused on the challenges posed by the advancement of artificial intelligence and the spread of misinformation, emphasizing the need for critical thinking in modern education. The conference also served as a tribute to the late Manuel Ferreira Patrício, former rector of the University of Évora.
