Artificial intelligence integration prompts discussions on legal liability and human oversight
Experts are discussing the integration of artificial intelligence across the medical and insurance sectors, focusing on the balance between technological efficiency and human oversight.
At the MIND2026 international congress, Dr. Valentina Opančina, a specialist in neuroradiology and law, addressed the legal complexities of AI in radiology. She emphasized that while AI can detect diseases more quickly and accurately, it cannot assume legal liability for errors. Opančina argued that legal frameworks must be updated to clearly define the boundaries of responsibility between software manufacturers and medical professionals to ensure patient safety and data privacy.
In the insurance industry, leaders are utilizing AI to enhance claims management by identifying patterns and suspicious activities that may elude human observation. Eldar Dudo, CEO of UNIQA osiguranje Sarajevo, and Ivana Ružičić, CEO of Smart a Noventiq Company, noted that AI serves as a tool to flag high-risk cases, such as unusual frequencies of claims or suspicious connections between participants. However, both emphasized that technology should augment rather than replace professional human judgment, as humans remain essential for understanding complex contexts.
