Artificial Intelligence's impact on Greek labor market and ethics

A new study by the research institute DIANEOSIS, coordinated by Professor Lilian Mitrou, examined how artificial intelligence (AI) could be made ethical and lawful in Greece. The report highlights both the risk of automation displacing jobs and the potential for AI to create new positions, calling for a robust regulatory framework that safeguards human dignity, democracy and the rule of law.

A ManpowerGroup survey of 520 Greek employers found that 53 % say AI tools have already increased productivity, and over half plan to invest further in both technical and interpersonal skills. Despite the rise of AI, 51 % still consider human judgment essential for evaluating job applicants.

Television presenter Natalia Germanou revealed a fabricated deep‑fake video that used AI to show her being arrested and making false statements. She condemned the clip as a fraud, warned users to be skeptical of AI‑generated media, and announced she will pursue legal action.

The DIANEOSIS study also stresses alignment with EU AI guidelines, requiring legal obligations, oversight and accountability mechanisms. It advocates a “by design” approach that embeds democratic values, human‑rights protection and transparent governance into AI systems.
