Artificial intelligence shifts from hype toward practical consumer utility

Recent developments in artificial intelligence highlight a shift from hype-driven demonstrations toward practical, utility-focused applications. At the Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon showcased an agentic future where AI agents can manage consumer tasks, such as purchasing items based on user history and location.

While some AI applications are criticized as distractions, significant value is being found in accessibility and photography. Smart glasses, such as Snap’s new Specs powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon chips, offer computer vision capabilities that can assist visually impaired users by describing environments or reading text. Additionally, AI is increasingly used for seamless photo editing, such as removing unwanted objects from images by intelligently filling in the background pixels.
