Artificial intelligence advances medical diagnostics and cancer detection

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming medical diagnostics and treatment strategies, particularly in oncology and cardiology. In cardiology, the European Society of Cardiology is leading efforts to integrate AI as a “copilot” for physicians, assisting with ECG interpretation, echocardiography, and imaging to enhance performance without replacing human medical responsibility.

In oncology, new AI models are being developed to identify subtle patterns in medical images, such as mammographies or CT scans, that may indicate a future risk of cancer even when current results appear normal. This capability is particularly significant for early detection in regions like Chile, where cancer incidence remains high.

Furthermore, technology leaders suggest that AI will eventually solve complex biological problems that exceed human capacity, such as modeling how DNA markers are affected by cancer. Systems like the UK’s NHS are already utilizing AI for administrative tasks and rapid diagnostics, including skin lesion analysis and more precise evaluations of breast and prostate cancer scans. While promising, the widespread implementation of these technologies depends on overcoming infrastructure challenges and the need for massive computing power.
