AI transforms recruitment for job seekers and employers
Artificial intelligence is significantly reshaping the recruitment landscape for both job seekers and employers. Candidates are increasingly using generative AI to manage high competition, with some reports indicating that up to 70.9% of Gen Z job seekers utilize AI during their search. This includes using tools for resume building, interview preparation, and research to navigate saturated markets where graduate roles can receive hundreds of applications.
On the employer side, companies are responding to the volume of automated applications by exploring AI-driven screening. While only a minority of surveyed firms currently use AI for candidate screening, many plan to incorporate it to manage the influx. Estimates suggest that automation in tasks such as initial screening, data collection, and interview scheduling could reduce the hiring cycle by up to 60% in large corporations.
New technological ecosystems are emerging to balance this shift. For example, the Portuguese firm Riia RH is developing a platform to help candidates use AI to structure their experiences and ensure compatibility with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) without fabricating credentials. Meanwhile, the rise of AI-generated applications has prompted a renewed focus on authenticity, with employers increasingly relying on assessments and reference checks to identify genuine candidate signals.
