Artisan bakeries expand presence in Rio de Janeiro
Artisan bakeries are expanding their presence in Rio de Janeiro, bringing contemporary sourdough and fermentation techniques to various neighborhoods.
Grão Napoli has opened a new unit at Shopping Paço do Ouvidor, located at the busy intersection of Rua do Ouvidor and Rua Uruguaiana in downtown Rio. The bakery offers a range of products including natural fermentation breads, focaccias, croissants, and pizzas. This new location places the brand within the city’s traditional confectionery hub, alongside historic establishments like Confeitaria Colombo.
Meanwhile, the Nema bakery chain is set to open a new location in Botafogo on Rua da Passagem, scheduled for August 25. The new site, which previously operated as a bicycle shop, will focus on artisan breads, sandwiches, and coffee. Founded in 2018 in Ipanema by Klaus Anton Allers and Rafael Widholzer Bordinhão, Nema has grown through a model of compact stores and accessible sourdough products.
