Artisan crafts Malvinas War material chalice for Pope Leo XIV

Artisan Juan Carlos Pallarols is crafting a ceremonial chalice to be presented to Pope Leo XIV during his upcoming visit to Argentina in November. The piece holds deep symbolic meaning, as it is being constructed from pure silver combined with materials used in the manufacturing of weapons from the Malvinas War.

The 83-year-old goldsmith has spent 14 months working on the baroque-style piece. The project has involved a collective effort, with participants from various regions including Corrientes, Chaco, and Santa Fe contributing to the work. The final chalice will be accompanied by a book containing signatures and well-wishes from those involved in its creation, aiming to transform elements of war into a religious symbol of peace.
