Artist Alex Flemming returns to Brazil after 34 years
Artist Alex Flemming has returned to Brazil after living in Berlin for 34 years. A former architecture student at FAU-USP, Flemming is known for large-scale public works in São Paulo, including 44 glass panels at the Sumaré metro station featuring anonymous Brazilian faces overlaid with poetry, and a 2016 installation at the Biblioteca Mário de Andrade.
His recent project, titled ‘Apocalipse’, consists of canvases depicting iconic global monuments in states of explosion and ruin. In August, 37 of these works were exhibited in two long-abandoned palaces on Rua Roberto Simonsen in central São Paulo. The exhibition, curated by Fábio Magalhães, was held without official sponsorship or press assistance.
