Artist repurposes old T-shirt into bleach art for charity

Chikara Takeshita, a drawing instructor and graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts, has gained attention for repurposing an old black T-shirt into a piece of art using bleach. By using bleach to create “light” against the black fabric, Takeshita created a portrait of jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan.

After listing the custom-designed shirt on Yahoo! Auctions for 1 yen to test market interest, the item received 42 bids and ultimately sold for 30,500 yen. Takeshita announced that the full proceeds from the auction will be donated as relief funds for the Kumamoto earthquake.
