Artistic initiatives promote upcycling and local heritage in Serbia and Bosnia
Young Researchers of Serbia (Mladi istraživači Srbije) have launched a call for artists to participate in an upcycling competition. For the third consecutive year, the organization invites artists to create new works from discarded materials, exploring themes of transformation, identity, and renewal. The initiative aims to provide a creative response to consumerism by giving new life to items such as old wood, broken glass, or worn fabric.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, photographer and designer Muhamed Smakić is documenting the charm of Novi Pazar through a specialized postcard project titled ‘Novi Pazar za ponijeti’ (Novi Pazar to Take Away). By combining photography with original graphic design, Smakić transforms everyday urban scenes into artistic souvenirs that offer both locals and visitors a unique perspective on the city’s atmosphere and identity.
