Artistic practice study proposes new design principles for Austrian primary schools

A study by Maria Essl and Moritz Zangerl explores design principles for primary school art education in Austria. The research addresses the gap between the Austrian curriculum's goals for diversity sensitivity, autonomy, and creativity, and the practical reality where art instruction is often reduced to repetitive template-based work.

Using development-oriented educational research and literature analysis, the authors developed design principles to support teachers. The study resulted in the creation of impulse cards intended to help educators provide art instruction that respects student diversity and fosters creative potential despite classroom challenges.
