Artur Jorge reflects on Botafogo's 2024 championship season
Artur Jorge, the former manager of Botafogo, has reflected on the club's historic 2024 season, which included winning both the Brazilian championship and the Copa Libertadores.
Regarding the Libertadores final against Atlético-MG, Jorge praised Thiago Almada and Luiz Henrique for their defensive discipline. Following the early expulsion of Gregore, the two players transitioned from offensive roles to assist defensively, a move Jorge described as being driven by “a different kind of fiber” and dedication to the team. Botafogo secured a 3-1 victory in the final held in Buenos Aires.
Jorge also recalled a strategic decision to hold a press conference during a period of intense media criticism following several draws. He stated that the move was intended to shift the narrative from post-game lamentation to future projection, helping the squad maintain mental strength ahead of critical matches against Palmeiras and Internacional.
