Arturo ‘Lobito’ Torres dies at 26 after boxing injury

Mexican boxer Arturo ‘Lobito’ Torres has died at age 26 following a brain injury sustained during a match in Mexicali, Baja California. The incident occurred on September 19 during a super lightweight bout against Gilberto ‘Torito’ García at Parque Vicente Guerrero.

During the seventh round, the referee and Torres's corner stopped the fight due to the heavy punishment the boxer was receiving. Shortly after the technical knockout was declared, Torres collapsed in the ring and began to convulse. He was rushed to the Hospital General de Mexicali, where doctors identified a brain clot and performed surgery. Despite the intervention, Torres remained in an induced coma for six days before passing away on September 25.

Torres had been a professional since 2018, accumulating a record of 15 wins, 6 losses, and 3 draws. The Mexican Boxing Federation expressed deep condolences to his family and the Baja California boxing community. His death has renewed discussions regarding safety protocols and medical conditions for professional boxers in Mexico.
