Arturo Millet Reyes escapes police custody in Mérida
Arturo Millet Reyes, a businessman facing multiple allegations of fraud and abuse of trust, escaped from a private clinic in Mérida, Yucatán, while under police custody.
Millet Reyes was being guarded by agents of the State Investigation Police (PEI) following a judicial hearing where a judge ordered preventive detention. The detention was issued because he failed to pay $2.8 million in damages. During the proceedings, the businessman claimed to be experiencing a nervous breakdown. After medical personnel confirmed his condition, a judge authorized his transfer to a private clinic for medical attention instead of immediate incarceration in the Mérida Social Reinsertion Center (Cereso).
While at the clinic, Millet Reyes managed to flee without the security agents reportedly noticing. A warrant for his re-arrest has been issued, and security forces have activated search operations to locate him. He is currently considered a fugitive from justice.
