Arturo Millet Reyes seeks injunction after escaping police custody

Arturo Millet Reyes, a businessman from Yucatán, is currently a fugitive after escaping from a private clinic in Mérida while under the custody of the State Investigation Police (PEI). The escape occurred on Saturday while Millet Reyes was being monitored by the Yucatán Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) due to ongoing legal proceedings.

Millet Reyes faces accusations of fraud and abuse of confidence involving millions of dollars. Following his escape, judicial authorities issued an arrest warrant against him on August 27. In response, his legal team has filed an injunction (amparo) to block the arrest warrant and is appealing a judicial order that requires him to pay $2.8 million USD through a trust to cover damages.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the escape to determine if there was negligence or omission by the officers responsible for his security. As of the latest reports, his location has not been confirmed.
