Arturo Pérez-Reverte ends 33-year column in XLSemanal

Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte is stepping down from his weekly column, ‘Patente de corso’, in the Vocento supplement XLSemanal after 33 years. Having published approximately 1,600 articles since 1993, the writer stated his decision is due to the passage of time and a desire to reorganize his journalistic activities rather than any editorial conflict. Andrés Trapiello will succeed him in the column starting in September.

In recent public appearances, the 74-year-old author has also shared reflections on the changing nature of the world. Drawing on his experience as a former war correspondent, Pérez-Reverte has discussed the ‘end of the West’ and the loss of absolute certainties, describing his perspective as a personal observation of a world in transition rather than an apocalyptic prophecy.
