Artvin pine resin reaches 10,000 TL per kilogram

In Artvin, Turkey, the harvesting of pine resin from fir trees has become a high-value traditional activity. Collectors, often villagers and shepherds, must climb trees reaching heights of 15 to 20 meters to manually extract the resin using knives.

Due to the hazardous and labor-intensive nature of the collection process, the price of the resin is significant, ranging between 7,500 and 10,000 Turkish Liras per kilogram. The harvest typically takes place during the months of August and September.

The product, locally known as ‘fir resin,’ is highly sought after for its perceived health benefits. It is traditionally consumed by mixing the resin in powder form with honey, a practice often used to alleviate stomach ailments. While younger generations use it, interest remains highest among citizens over the age of 50.
