Aruba allocates 59 million florins for strategic public investment projects

The Parliament of Aruba is reviewing the budget for the General Investment and Development Fund (AIOF) for 2026–2027. This investment fund, totaling nearly 59 million florins, represents a structural change in public finance management by allowing unused funds to carry over to subsequent years, ensuring large-scale projects are completed without interruption.

Key planned projects include 7 million florins for road maintenance and construction, housing initiatives, the construction of the MFA in San Nicolas, school renovations such as Reina Beatrix, and the digitalization of e-Government services. Additionally, funds are allocated for upgrading DOW dump trucks to improve community sanitation.

In light of these developments, lawmaker Ursell Arends has called for elderly care to be included as a strategic priority within public investment planning. Arends emphasized that quality care requires adequate infrastructure, materials, and continuous funding. Currently, the sector manages approximately 300 beds in private care homes and 200 beds through SABA, but faces urgent needs regarding facility renovation and maintenance.
