Aruba celebrates UNESCO biosphere reserve status on World Conservation Day

On 28 July, the island of Aruba marked World Conservation Day by highlighting the link between a healthy environment and the well‑being of its people. The government noted that Aruba received the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Reserve designation, which opens new opportunities for scientific research, environmental monitoring, knowledge exchange and sustainable management of its natural resources.

The island's tourism minister introduced a shift toward a regenerative tourism model that aims not only to reduce the sector's impact on nature but also to actively restore ecosystems, supporting the tourism economy and climate resilience. The announcement emphasized the role of citizens, NGOs, scientists, schools and businesses in protecting Aruba's beaches, coral reefs, wetlands and biodiversity for current and future generations.
