Aruba expands electric vehicle fleet to reduce fuel costs

The Government of Aruba is expanding the use of electric vehicles (EVs) within its official fleet to reduce fossil fuel dependency and improve energy efficiency. This transition includes providing electric vehicles for ministers following a public tender and market consultation, where the company Green Wheels was selected as the supplier, with the exception of Prime Minister Eman.

Early results from the transition show significant economic benefits. The Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) reported a nearly 70% reduction in monthly fuel expenditures per vehicle during its first six months of EV use, with average costs dropping from AWG 1,500 to approximately AWG 405 per vehicle.

Minister of Economic Affairs Geoffrey Wever noted that the electrification of the public fleet serves as a concrete example of the government's commitment to sustainability. Several state entities and departments, including DEZHI, SEDECO, CBS, DTZ, and Post Aruba N.V., have already integrated electric vehicles into their operations as part of a broader modernization and energy independence strategy.
