Aruba faces environmental court cases and political transparency appeals

Aruba Birdlife Conservation is set to appear in court this week regarding two separate environmental proceedings. One case focuses on the protection of the Isla di Oro wetland, while the other seeks to establish limits on motorized off-road activity in vulnerable natural areas to mitigate erosion, dust, and wildlife disturbance.

Separately, members of the MEP parliamentary faction, Evelyn Wever-Croes and Rocco Tjon, have filed an appeal in the Court of First Instance of Aruba. The appeal challenges Minister Gerlien Croes’ refusal to disclose details regarding an official trip to Curaçao made via private jet. The MEP questions the minister’s compliance with the Code of Conduct, specifically regarding the lack of transparency over payment receipts and whether the coverage of travel costs by a third party constitutes an undeclared gift.
