Aruba government advances urban renewal and healthcare reforms
The Government of Aruba has initiated several administrative and infrastructural developments. In Oranjestad, the government signed a contract with BK Consultant Civiel-Bouwkundig Advies Bureau N. V. to develop an integral design for the revitalization of Wilhelminastraat. This project aims to improve public space quality, mobility, and sustainability while preserving the area's historical identity.
In the healthcare sector, the government has awarded a consultancy contract to Dutch professional Koen Aanen to strengthen and digitalize mental health and addiction care. The contract, valued at a maximum of Afl. 194,400, was granted without a public tender, citing a lack of local professionals. The consultant will work up to 20 hours per week at a rate of Afl. 270 per hour to develop an implementation plan.
Additionally, the Aruban Cabinet has decided to integrate the Consumer Defense Service (SEDECO) into the Directorate of Economic Affairs, Trade, and Industry (DEZHI). Effective October 1, 2026, this reorganization aims to centralize consumer and tenant protection to improve coordination and government responsiveness.
