Aruba Government Faces Legal Void Over Missing LIM Structure

The administration of Aruba's AVP‑FUTURO coalition is confronting a significant legal gap after more than a year without a functioning Landsverordening Instelling Ministeries (LIM). The absence of a LIM, a constitutional requirement for defining ministerial responsibilities, has created confusion over accountability and weakened parliamentary oversight of the executive branch.

Officials, including State Secretary Eric van der Burg, have been criticised for allowing the situation to persist, prompting concerns that the lack of clear ministerial portfolios fosters a culture of irresponsibility and impedes transparency in public administration. Opposition figures and civic groups are demanding that the government restore the LIM to ensure proper governance and restore public confidence.
