Aruba officials propose financial support for children with intensive care needs
Aruban Minister of Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care and Addiction Management, Mervin Wyatt-Ras, and Prime Minister Mike Eman have submitted a legislative proposal to Parliament to provide financial assistance to families with children requiring intensive care.
The proposed law, titled Landsverordening tegemoetkoming voor kinderen met intensieve zorgbehoefte, suggests a monthly contribution of Afl. 500 for each child under the age of 18 with intensive care needs. This support is intended to help families manage additional costs associated with therapy, medical treatment, and specialized equipment.
The initiative originated in 2021 following consultations with parents, schools, and various community organizations across Aruba. The proposal has undergone legal review by the Directorate of Legislation and Legal Affairs and has received recommendations from the Advisory Council before its formal submission to Parliament.
