Aruba lawmakers demand reforms as investment fund law sparks parliamentary criticism
Aruban parliamentarian Evelyn Wever Croes condemned the recent approval of an investment‑fund law passed with only a minimal majority, warning that a weak parliament and government could cause lasting damage to future generations. She urged the prime minister, Mike Eman, to introduce checks and balances, involving the Raad van Advies and Raad van State, and to reverse the legislation before final decisions are taken.
Separately, MP Edgar Vrolijk criticised the current administration for steering the country toward a “social abyss,” saying policies such as the recent minimum‑wage increase create a dangerous dependency on the state instead of fostering citizen autonomy. Vrolijk called for structural economic solutions and a shift away from short‑term political measures.
Both parliamentarians demanded that the government change course, improve transparency, and adopt long‑term strategies to safeguard Aruba’s financial and social stability.
