In June, the Parliament of Aruba debated a proposed Investment Fund law introduced by Minister Geoffrey Wever that would allocate an initial 43 million florins of public money for various investments. MP Endy Croes highlighted that the General Audit Chamber of Aruba (ARA) had submitted a report titled “Buiten beeld, buiten controle” on 7 May 2026, warning of significant risks and urging structural reforms before the bill could be approved. The chamber cited earlier scandals – the 1999 Fondo di Desaroyo Nobo case and the 2018 Bo Aruba investigation – which resulted in corruption convictions and large financial losses.

Critics, including MP Xiomara Maduro, have also called for greater transparency, noting that more than 10,000 citizens have lodged objections and that unions and experts question the constitutional basis of the proposal. They argue that the government must disclose any changes to the law, explain the rationale, and allow a proper public debate before moving forward.
