Aruba reopens air border with Venezuela after six‑year closure

On 1 August, Aruba restored commercial air services to Venezuela, ending a closure that began in 2019 under Nicolás Maduro. The reopening was announced through a NOTAM issued by the Reina Beatrix International Airport and initially permits only regular passenger flights; private and general‑aviation operations remain excluded.

Aruban authorities said the resumption will be gradual, requiring airlines to obtain the necessary approvals from civil aviation regulators in both territories. Minister of Tourism, Transport and Labour Wendrick Cicilia highlighted that the priority is to re‑establish passenger transport while monitoring the routes. Prime Minister Mike Eman noted the move will aid the sizable Venezuelan community residing in Aruba. The Dutch embassy in Caracas is prepared to process up to 8,000 visas per month for Venezuelan travelers.

The decision follows a series of technical and diplomatic evaluations coordinated with the Kingdom of the Netherlands, reflecting a bilateral effort to revive connectivity between the two neighbours.
