Arun Hemachandra vows to eliminate middlemen in development projects

Arun Hemachandra, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Employment, stated that development work will no longer be restricted to specific groups and must reach all citizens. He emphasized that the political culture of using intermediaries to secure contracts for personal profit is changing.

The government is implementing new procedures to ensure development projects reach the public directly without middleman interference. Hemachandra noted that he has overseen development projects worth hundreds of millions of rupees in the Trincomalee district over the last two years, asserting that he has not met with any contractors personally and that his name or image is not displayed on projects, as state funds belong to the people rather than individuals.

He acknowledged that implementing these changes may face challenges and opposition, but expressed determination to overcome them to build a country free of corruption and inequality.
