Arun Jaitley Stadium drainage upgrade may shift Delhi Ranji matches

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) is planning a major overhaul of the drainage system at Arun Jaitley Stadium. This renovation involves converting the current soil-based outfield into a sand-based one, a process that requires significant watering and time for grass cultivation.

As a result of the expected downtime, Delhi’s initial home matches for the 2026/27 Ranji Trophy season may be relocated to the Air Force Ground in Palam. Specifically, scheduled fixtures against Gujarat (October 18–21) and Services (November 2–5) are expected to move to the Palam venue.

The timeline for the work could also impact international fixtures. If the drainage upgrades and subsequent grass growth face delays, the BCCI may need to find an alternative venue for the men’s ODI between India and Sri Lanka, currently scheduled for December 13 in New Delhi.
