Arunachal Pradesh border villages emerging as tourism and livelihood hubs

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced that the state's border villages are emerging as new hubs for tourism, livelihoods, and local enterprises. Speaking during the 80th Independence Day celebrations in Itanagar, Khandu highlighted the impact of the ‘Vibrant Village Program’ in improving infrastructure and strengthening local communities.

Under the first phase of the program, projects worth approximately 2,800 crore rupees are being implemented across 455 villages along the India-Tibet (China) border. The second phase includes 122 villages along the borders with Myanmar and Bhutan. These initiatives aim to enhance connectivity and create sustainable livelihood opportunities in remote areas.

Additionally, the Chief Minister declared 2025–2035 as the ‘Decade of Hydroelectric Power,’ aiming to establish 19 GW of capacity with an estimated investment of 1.9 lakh crore rupees. He noted that four units of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project are already operational, producing 1,000 MW of clean energy, with the remaining units expected to start this year.
